Steps For Reporting Minor Accidents Through The App

An accident may occur under several different circumstances. Accidents could be a direct result of reckless driving or may be caused by the carelessness of other drivers. In either case, the situation can be extremely stressful.

The following are 5 key steps one should follow in the event of a car accident in Dubai:

• Alert the police

  Minor accidents can now be reported via the Dubai Police mobile application.

  The process takes a few minutes, and you need to enter the details of your driving license and car registration, and upload pictures of the damage to your car so that authorities can assess the scene and identify the party at fault.

• Obtain the police report

  The most important document in case of a collision is the ‘Police Report’. The report is a mandatory document for the claim process and would be needed to process the car repairs. For accidents reported through the Dubai Police app, accident reports are sent to all parties involved via SMS within 24 hours of completing the process on the app.

• Intimate your insurer

  Contact your motor insurance company at once and provide details about the road accident. Inform them that the police report is ready and that they should arrange collection of the car from the mentioned location. The insurance company will then advise you the steps further. Upon receiving the formal police report, this claim will be re-validated and consequently formalized.

• Get your car fixed

  If the damage is only cosmetic, then it should be fine to drive away from the scene. In the case that your car has sustained substantial damage and is unsafe to drive, your insurer will be obliged to send out a recovery truck to tow your car to the nearest certified garage.

• Review your insurance policy

  Review your insurance policy document to know the extent of coverage and assess the best compensation. The repair duration depends on the extent of damage and spare parts availability. Stay in touch with the insurance company for updates and alerts during the stages of the claim processing and receipt of settlement.

NOTE:

• You must remain calm and not engage in any arguments with the other driver(s) and especially not with the police when they arrive. Follow all the instructions given by the police.
• Once the accident has been reported, patiently wait for the police to arrive. The police in Dubai are efficient and will assess the incident appointing blame where it lies, following which they will issue you with a police report in Arabic.

  There are three colour codes for these:

  • Pink – You are at fault
  • Green – You are not at fault
  • White – Neither appears to be at fault
